Shop at Your Own Risk

Today the girls and I were at Target doing some "back to school" shopping. The girls were riding on either side of the outside of the cart, which is something that I let them do every now and then in spite of the warning signs on the seat of the cart. I know...breaking the rules...but in my defense, they don't usually do it for long before they get tired or distracted and I find it is easier to keep them close to me when they "ride along" every now and then.

We had just began our shopping adventure today when a lady who appeared to be a Target exec of some sort (name tag but no red apron...) saw our happy little family and said, "Ma'am, please have your children get off the cart. I've seen way too many fatalities happen that way."

"Fatalities? Really?" I said.

"Well...I mean..."

Then the guy with her came to her rescue and said, "It really isn't safe..." etc. etc.

I told them that I would have the girls get off the cart, but fatalities? Really?

I was probably not super gracious about it and it undoubtedly bothered me more than it should have. In fact, it put me in kind of a sour mood for a while. (My poor girls....)

My mood lifted, though, as we walked out of the store and I realized that both of my girls were alive and well. Another successful shopping trip with no fatalities. Excellent!
