Now that we are getting caught up on sleep and adjusting to the time change (read: I am able to stay awake past 7:30 pm), I thought it was about time we chronicled our trip to Ethiopia. We covered the first few days of the trip in email form, but it's just not the same without the pictures, so here we go again!
We left Los Angeles on Thursday, February 4th, at 4 pm. Sixteen hours and multiple timezones later, we landed in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It was Friday, February 5th, at 8 pm when we landed. You would think that after 16 hours in the air we would all be exhausted. Two of us were.

The other one, not so much... We were flying Emirates Air, which is super-duper-awesome-amazing, and since our layover lasted more than 8 hours, they put us up in a hotel for the night. Mihret fell asleep after we got to the hotel, but woke up around 2 am hungry.
"Mama, I'm hungry."
"It's the middle of the night, honey. I don't have any food. I'm sorry. Go back to sleep."
"But Mama, I'm really, really HUNGRY..."
Then I remembered that the hotel gave us meal vouchers that were good 24 hours a day, so at 2:30 am I took my 2 year old daughter down to the restaurant to eat something. I must have looked like a terrible mom, but honestly, it was 2:30 in the afternoon our body's time.
When we got back from "breakfast," I couldn't get any lights in our room to go on and it was pitch black. Chuck was still sleeping so I didn't want to turn on many lights but I needed some light so we wouldn't trip over things. We went downstairs to find someone who could help us. He couldn't figure it out either so he called another guy. Before I knew it, there were three men in our room trying to get the lights to come on - all while my husband was trying to sleep. The last guy fixed the problem and then proceeded to turn ALL of the lights in the room on in spite of my attempts to stop him. Oh well, nothing like waking up to the sounds of unknown men in your room and then have all the lights turned on... Surprisingly, Chuck didn't go back to sleep after that.
Mihret and I went back to the restaurant for 2nd breakfast around 5:30 am and then we all headed to the airport. The ever vibrant Mihret had fun both in the airport and making friends on the plane.

Mihret with another adoptive family on the airplane. They were also adopting a child from the same orphanage that Zinash was at.We arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia around 12:30 pm on Saturday, February 6th. We covered the airport fiasco pretty well in another post, so I won't re-hash it here. Suffice it to say that we were really glad when we got out of the airport and on our way to the Guest House where we were staying.
