One Week to Go
We are leaving for Ethiopia one week from today! I am slowly, slowly getting items checked off the huge "to do" list I created the other day. The problem is that I also keep adding items to the list as I think of them, so it seems that the list stays around the same length. Oh well! I am trusting that the things that are most important will get done. Now if I can just figure out which things really are most important...
I'm full of so many conflicting emotions: thrilled to meet our daughter; nervous about the plethora of unknowns; hopeful for our future as a family; scared about the challenges we may run into during the transition; excited about returning to Ethiopia; dreading the long flights and the 11 hour time change; concerned about how Zinash will feel as she leaves all that she has ever known; wondering how long it will be before we all get comfortable with each other and settle into a "new normal" as a family.
We don't know what the next weeks and months will bring. If we're honest with ourselves, we never really know what the next weeks and months and years will bring, but right now I'm fully aware of that truth. One thing I am sure of, though, and that is that we are not alone on this adventure. God - the One who loves us more than any other - is with me and Chuck and Mihret and Zinash and will be with us every step of the way.
There is a verse from Isaiah that I have loved since my Dad taught it to me when I was a child. It is a reminder to me not to be afraid of the unknown, but to trust that God will give each one of us the strength to get through whatever challenges we may face as we become a family.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
